We tried to read the fee pages of 60 journals from small publishers: 0 say on their own pages that authors pay nothing; 41 charge authors or sell optional open access; for 19 we found no clear statement. Flat amounts: 16 journals from 40 to 2,500 USD; 6 journals from 50 to 3,000 EUR; 3 journals from 25,000 to 60,000 RUB.

How to read this page

This is a selection, not a census. It takes publishers with one to four journals in DOAJ that charge an APC, not already in our main list, at most four per country, and reads one journal per publisher as an example. The fee shown may not apply to the publisher’s other journals. The page address is recorded for every row, and rows were read on 21 October 2026.

Caveat. These readings were made with automated page reading and have not yet been double-checked by hand; quotations are therefore not published here. A journal is listed as charging nothing only where its own page says so. Where we found no statement, or the page could not be read, it is listed as unclear, not as free. Amounts are list prices in the currency the journal states, before tax, waivers and institutional agreements.

What the examples show

41 of the 60 journals charge authors or sell optional open access, 0 say they charge nothing and 19 are unclear.

Amounts are in many currencies, some by author location or page count. Where a page gave a tiered price we show the tier named in the conditions; where it gave only a per-page fee or no single amount the amount is left blank.
