Who qualifies for a Wiley APC waiver?
Authors from 77 countries (Research4Life Group A) get 100% APC waivers at Wiley's fully open access journals. Authors from 28 more (Group B) get 50% discount. Waivers are automatic — you don't apply. Hybrid journals are NEVER covered. Since 2025-01-21, 33 Latin American countries get separate discounts based on Purchasing Power Index. Unlike Elsevier, Wiley reads only the corresponding author's affiliation — co-authors from high-income countries do not reduce the waiver. A Ghanaian corresponding author with a US co-author still gets 100% off.

The two country groups
77 countries at 100% (mostly Research4Life Group A). 28 more at 50% (Group B). Together, 105 countries qualify for some level of relief on Wiley's fully open access journals.
Only corresponding author counts
Unlike Elsevier, Wiley applies the waiver based on the corresponding author's affiliation only. Co-authors from high-income countries do not reduce the waiver — a Ghanaian corresponding author with a US co-author still gets 100% off.
Latin American pilot is separate
Since 2025-01-21, corresponding authors from 33 Latin American countries receive discounts calculated from the country's Purchasing Power Index (PPI) — World Bank ICP data. This is a pilot, distinct from the waiver scheme, and applies to fully open access journals only.
Hybrid is excluded — always
Wiley does not offer waivers or discounts on hybrid APCs. Ever. If your target journal is hybrid, you pay full price or take the free subscription route.
Editorial firewall
Wiley states plainly: "editors of open access journals are not involved in correspondence with authors regarding payment of APCs." Applying for a waiver does not affect your acceptance chance.
How it applies
Nothing to fill out separately. Enter your affiliation correctly at submission. Wiley's system checks and applies the waiver automatically.
