APC Watch: what changed in publisher fees this month
One email a month. It lists new and changed article processing charges, countries added or removed from waiver lists, and changes in who counts for a waiver, each with the publisher’s page and the date we read it.
Updated 21 October 2026
APC Watch covers the prices of more than 11,900 journals and the waiver rules of 52 publishers. The first issue is free. It is for librarians, research offices and authors who need to know when a price or a rule changes before they budget or submit.
What an issue contains
- Price changes: journals whose list price moved, publisher by publisher, in the publisher’s own currency.
- Waiver changes: countries added or removed (for example, Wiley’s list changed between July and September 2026), new conditions, new deadlines.
- Corrections: anything we got wrong, from our public corrections log.
- A CSV of what changed, for people who keep their own budget sheets.
Examples of changes worth knowing
- Optica waives APCs for corresponding authors in Ukraine through 2026 only.
- Elsevier reduces a full waiver to 50% when co-authors are in different Research4Life groups.
- Karger takes waiver requests only after acceptance; Taylor & Francis and Springer Nature require them at submission.

For institutions
A paid plan for institutions is being tested: the same digest with a quarterly summary and an extract for the publishers you use. If you would like to take part in the pilot, say so in the form, or read what we offer libraries and research offices. Publishers cannot pay to change anything on JournalFees; see Funding and independence.
