What are Cell Press APCs, and how do they differ from other Elsevier journals?

Cell Press is Elsevier's premium life-sciences brand. APCs "start at $1,500 US dollars, excluding tax," per Elsevier's own page — no upper bound is published. Prices are set per journal and displayed in a table on the Cell Press open access page. Because Cell titles are highly selective and prestige-driven, the practical range runs materially higher than typical Elsevier titles.

En détail

What Cell Press covers

Cell (the flagship), Cell Reports, Molecular Cell, Neuron, Immunity, Cancer Cell, Cell Metabolism, Cell Host & Microbe, Chem, Joule, Med, Patterns, iScience, and about 25 more. Not all offer open access — some are subscription-only.

Pricing is per-journal, not per-brand

Elsevier states Cell Press APC pricing "is set on a per-journal basis. Fees start at US$1,500." That is the floor, not the average. Individual journal APCs are published on the Cell Press open access page.

Personalisation applies here too

Like Lancet titles, Cell Press journals use personalised APC pricing. The invoice you receive at production may not match the list price, especially if your institution has an agreement or you're in a country covered by the GPOA pilot.

The tax reminder

Prices are quoted excluding VAT/GST. EU-based authors add VAT unless the institution handles it. This can add 15–20% to the invoice.
